New research has revealed the most searched travel destination in each American state. The research, conducted by travel information site Places To Travel, analyzed Google Trends data to establish the top vacation destinations of each state throughout the nation.

The analysis revealed that Italy was the most popular travel destination in ten states, including New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Arizona. Jason Wilson, CEO of Places to Travel has shared some top tips for vacationers planning a trip to Italy.

“Immerse yourself in Italy’s impressive culinary landscape by embracing the local dining culture. Venture beyond tourist hubs and seek out authentic, Italian-run eateries where menus are in the local language. Take the time to enjoy multi-course meals and make the most of your experience with wine pairings, exploring regional specialties that define the unique tastes of each area.”

Hawaii was found to be the second most searched travel destination across the nation, topping the searches of nine states, including New Jersey, California, Texas, Washington, and Alabama.

Wilson says, “Embrace the local culture by learning a few Hawaiian phrases and participating in traditional customs. “And, of course, familiarize yourself with the concept of ‘island time,’ the idea that you can move at a more leisurely pace, allowing you to truly unwind and connect with the spirit of the islands.

“Whether exploring the vibrant markets, attending a luau, or enjoying a sunset on the beach, let Hawaii’s natural beauty and warm hospitality shape your unforgettable travel experience.”

Seven states had the Caribbean as their top-searched travel destination, including Tennessee, Louisiana, Oregon, Utah, and Nevada. Sharing a top travel tip for the region, Wilson reminded travelers to pack for the occasion.

“When gearing up for a Caribbean getaway, ensure your suitcase includes essentials tailored to the tropical climate. Think lightweight clothing crafted from breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. Consider packing comfortable shorts, breezy T-shirts, sundresses, and lightweight pants to easily navigate the tropical weather.”

Three destinations came in joint fourth – Bali, Japan, and Ireland, with each destination topping the searches in three states each.

Bali, Indonesia, was the most searched for in Arkansas, Kansas, and Mississippi. Wilson advises travelers to explore the neighboring islands of Bali, saying:“Consider island-hopping to neighboring islands like Nusa Penida or the Gili Islands. Each island offers a unique charm, from pristine beaches to dramatic landscapes, providing a range of experiences beyond the mainland of Bali.”

Japan topped the searches in Florida, Georgia, and Colorado. Japan is renowned worldwide for its famous gardens. “Engage in the tranquil beauty of Japanese gardens, such as the Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa or the Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu,” says Wilson.

“These meticulously designed spaces offer moments of serenity amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”

Ireland was the top-searched travel destination of Indiana, New Hampshire, and North Dakota.

Like the rest of the British Isles, Ireland is famous for its unpredictable weather, with Wilson explaining, “Be prepared for rain, but don’t let it dampen your spirits. The ever-changing skies often add to the dramatic beauty of the Irish landscapes, creating a unique and unforgettable travel experience.”

Greece and Mexico come in at fifth place, each topping the searches in two states each.

New Mexico and Maine both had Greece as their top-searched destination. Wilson recommends exploring the ancient history of Greece, saying, “Exploring Greece means diving into the history of Western civilization. Start in Athens with the Acropolis, a symbol of ancient Greek architecture. Visit Delphi for its mythic Oracle and head to Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Walk through the ruins of Mycenae and Epidaurus’s ancient theaters. Greece’s historical sites offer a direct connection to the roots of Western culture, revealing the foundations of democracy, philosophy, and athletic competition.”

Oklahoma and Vermont both had Mexico as their most searched for destination.

Mexico is known the world over for its street food, and Wilson recommends that travelers, “Dive into the vibrant world of street food in bustling markets and indulge in the hearty flavors of regional dishes, whether it’s slow-roasted meat or rich mole.

He adds, “Coastal areas are full of seafood delights like fish tacos and ceviche, complemented by traditional candies throughout the country.”

Seven destinations make up the remainder of the top-searched destinations, with Banff, Dubia, France, Iceland, Norway, Scotland, and Switzerland each topping the searches in one state each.

Banff, Canada was the most searched destination in Michigan, while Delaware was seen to have Dubai as its most searched destination. France topped the searches in Wyoming, Iceland topped the searches in South Carolina, and Norway was the most searched for destination in Wisconsin.
