ANGELS LANDING THE DETAILS

Angels Landing Trail starts at the Grotto trailhead. Take the shuttle from the Visitor Center to shuttle stop 6: The Grotto.

ZION SHUTTLE STOP

Distance: 5 miles return Elevation: 1,488 feet Duration: Average is 4-5 hours.

TRAIL STATS

The trail starts out relatively flat and is even paved for a majority of the ascent to Scout Lookout.

STARTING THE HIKE

The Angels Landing trail takes you through the shady and cool Refrigerator Canyon (not just a clever name).

REFRIGERATOR CANYON

After Refrigerator Canyon, you climb up Walter's Wiggles, a series of 21 switchbacks, to Scout Lookout.

WALTER'S WIGGLES

Take a break at Scout Lookout before you start the final section across the Hogsback on narrow, exposed trail using chains for assistance.

SCOUT LOOKOUT

What you worked so hard for!  Take a moment to take it in, before doing the trail in reverse.

TIPS FOR HIKING  ANGELS LANDING

TIP #1

Carry all your stuff in a small backpack. You’ll want your hands free for holding chains.

TIP #2

Do not hike the trail if it’s raining or a storm is looming. Make sure you have plenty of daytime left to finish the hike.

TIP #3

Be prepared to go slowly behind large groups. Don’t try to pass them, take this time to enjoy your surroundings.

TIP #4

Go early, to beat the crowds and the heat. Pack all the water you'll need too!

Take your time and enjoy every second of this exhilarating hike.
