The Nautilus launches ‘Ocean Discovery Week’

Ultra-luxury private island resort, The Nautilus Maldives, has announced its inaugural Ocean Discovery Week from 24th-31st July 2024. This new annual event invites guests to  explore the beautiful waters of the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve through a bespoke guided  diving and snorkelling programme, pairing ultra-luxury hospitality with once-in-a-lifetime underwater  experiences.

The week will be led by renowned diving experts, Jeff and Sarah Milisen from Hawaii:

  • Jeff Milisen is a distinguished marine biology scientist and celebrated blackwater  photographer. His expertise in capturing elusive nocturnal species has earned international  acclaim, including 14 major contest wins. Jeff’s book “A Field Guide to Blackwater Diving in  Hawaii” is used to train dive professionals worldwide.
  • Sarah Milisen is the Director of Education at a prestigious 5-Star PADI Dive Center in Hawaii,  with over 23 years of extensive in-water experience nurturing environmentally conscious  ocean stewards.

Activities will include guided night dives and snorkelling, allowing guests to dive into the captivating  realm of nocturnal marine life and witness this underwater world from a new unique perspective. Led  by Jeff and Sarah, participants will observe the intricate patterns of nocturnal fish and witness a  mesmerising display of fluorescent corals.

Guests can also embark on a private manta ray excursion to the renowned Hanifaru Bay, a 15-minute  luxury speedboat journey away. Here, they can observe these majestic creatures up close in the world’s  premier manta ray feeding ground. The Nautilus’s resident marine biologist will also offer a unique  insight into the fascinating behaviour and ecology of manta rays.

Watersports using Seabobs and E-foils will be available for those looking to explore the private island’s  surrounding waters further, while the Solasta Spa offers unique relaxation experiences such as floating  yoga, breathwork, meditation, and sound healing sessions in the overwater pavilions. Continuing the  ocean theme, The Nautilus’s award-winning culinary and mixology team will present a meticulously  curated dining experience inspired by the sea.

Younger guests and children are invited to participate in a marine biologist workshop, Bubble Maker  courses, an underwater treasure hunt, a watercolour art workshop, a mocktail making class, and an  engaging blackwater photo exhibition hosted by Jeff. Aspiring underwater photographers will have the  exclusive opportunity to learn the art of underwater photography from Jeff.
