Holidu takes over Germany-based home rental portal

Munich-based holiday home rental search engine and software provider Holidu is taking over Ferienwohnungen.de, a German online portal for vacation rentals. Terms of the acquisition are not being disclosed.

Founded in 1998, Ferienwohnungen.de has about 7,000 properties on its platform. As a result of the acquisition, those hosts will now have access to Holidu’s solutions, including software for direct online bookings and local support.

For guests, the complete Holidu inventory can now be searched and booked on Ferienwohnungen.de.

“With this cooperation, we are taking hosts by the hand and accompanying them on their way to online booking,” said Johannes Siebers, CEO and co-founder of Holidu, which was founded in 2014. “We offer hosts an even better technological solution and a simplification of many processes, from optimized calendar planning to efficient payment processing.”

Thomas Frost, managing owner at Ferienwohnungen.de, said, “We are very happy to have found a partner who offers our guests and hosts the best technology on the market. Together with the Holidu team, we will further expand the reach of the portal. We’re particularly looking forward to that.”

The Ferienwohnungen.de office near Flensburg will become part of the Holidu company with over 500 employees in offices in Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece.

“We warmly welcome our new colleagues and look forward to working together on our mission: that hosts and guests can fully enjoy their holiday home, with joy and without worries,” Siebers said.

In October 2022 Holidu closed a €100 million funding round. It raised €40 million in 2019 and a further €45 million in 2021. In October 2021 the company acquired vacation rental platform Spain-Holiday to expand its services in that country.
