Eight Continents adds a new Ayurveda-led resort in Mafia Island, advancing its long-term Africa growth vision
Eight Continents Hotels & Resorts has expanded its Africa portfolio with the launch of Signature Collection by Eight Continents, Mafia Island, Tanzania. The new opening follows the brand’s recent growth in Zanzibar and reinforces its focus on Africa’s emerging leisure destinations.
Located in Utende, the resort provides direct access to the Mafia Island Marine Park, one of East Africa’s most protected and biodiverse coastal regions. The decision to enter the destination was driven by Mafia Island’s untouched natural landscapes, coral reefs, seagrass beds, pristine beaches, and overall ecological purity.
Designed as an Ayurveda-led island retreat, the property features Ocean View and Garden View Chalets, each with private verandas overlooking coastal or tropical surrounds. Guests can access on-site Ayurvedic therapies, curated marine activities, and wellness-led amenities shaped around Swahili craftsmanship and design traditions.
Dining at the resort highlights authentic Swahili cuisine, prepared using locally grown produce, alongside a selection of international dishes tailored for global travellers. The culinary approach emphasises sustainability and the use of regional ingredients.
