ABTA’s Travel Trends for 2025 report draws on research from their annual Holiday Habits survey to predict the top travel trends for the year ahead.
Despite ongoing pressure on household finances, they’re seeing an unwavering commitment to holidays, with more than two-thirds (68%) planning to travel abroad in the next 12 months and the vast majority (84%) planning to spend either just as much or more on their holidays next year as they did this year.
Mark Tanzer, Chief Executive, ABTA said: “ABTA recently launched a mini-report, ‘Travel Trends for 2025’, which shares some of the developments we’re seeing. We cover five areas, including where there’s growth in demand for five-star accommodation – the results may surprise you – and the increasing popularity of couples’ holidays.
Also included are the growth of long haul, in particular to new destinations; both brochures and AI as ways in which consumers are getting ideas for their next break; and, appropriately for the time of year, how the public’s choices for winter breaks are evolving. The trends have been identified from independent consumer research and from conversations with ABTA members.”
A couple of trends in particular support the desire to prioritise spending on travel, with long-haul holidays and five-star stays set to be big in the year ahead. The data also points to an increased importance on the experiences people have while they’re away, with more and more people seeking out unique activities on their winter getaways and an expected rise in couples-only breaks next year.
And when it comes to getting their plans in place for 2025, they’re also seeing traditional sources of holiday inspiration remaining remarkably resilient as well as the adoption of new tech starting to come through.
